How to measure this project

Group only gaps that can reasonably share one average width, depth and product. Measure the developed length of the compatible joints, then record representative width and fill depth from the actual condition. Wide or deep cavities can behave very differently from narrow air-sealing joints, so split them into separate calculations instead of averaging dissimilar conditions into one number.

Before you buy materials

Published theoretical foam yield can differ from field yield because temperature, substrate, bead shape, expansion and application technique matter. Use a conservative usable yield from the selected product and project conditions. The result is material planning only: verify compatible gap range, fireblocking/firestop requirements, exposure limits and whether trimming or multiple passes are permitted.

Frequently asked questions

Does board-foot yield equal finished cured foam volume exactly?

No. It is a planning volume reference; real usable yield depends on product and conditions.

Can I use this to choose a firestop product?

No. Firestop and fireblocking systems require product- and assembly-specific selection outside this calculator.

Should all gaps use one average size?

Only group similar gaps. Calculate materially different widths or depths separately.
