How to measure this project
Measure each countertop run along the wall or cabinet line and record the finished depth separately. Add islands, peninsulas and other independent top sections as their own measured areas. Subtract only genuinely large openings when they remove material from the purchased field; sink and cooktop cutouts may still affect slab layout even when their area is deducted.
Before you buy materials
Countertop purchasing is often constrained by slab dimensions, pattern direction, seam location, sink/cooktop cutouts, edge defects and fabricator handling rules. Use the usable coverage figure supplied by the fabricator or product package rather than assuming every square foot of a nominal slab can be placed efficiently. The result is a planning quantity, not a seam or support design.
