Measure each continuous backsplash segment from finished corner to finished corner and record the actual tile height. Treat range hoods, tall windows and other large no-tile zones as separate exclusions. Keep inside and outside corners visible in the sketch because they affect cuts even though the area formula is simple.
Use the exact box coverage and tile format selected for the project. Sheet mosaics, handmade tile, strong directional patterns and diagonal layouts can create more offcuts than a basic rectangular field. Trim pieces, edge profiles, grout, adhesive and substrate preparation are separate quantities and should not be assumed to be included in the tile boxes.
