When to use this calculator

The product is laminate and you want boxes, purchased coverage, waste and optional material cost.

Use a different calculator when

Use the generic Flooring Calculator when only box coverage is known, or Vinyl Plank/Hardwood for those product types.

Methodology

Formula & assumptions

Measured area

length × width

Rectangular floor footprint.

Waste area

measured area × waste %

Adds cuts and selection allowance.

Purchase target

measured area + waste

Coverage needed before package rounding.

Boxes

ceiling(target ÷ box coverage)

Purchases whole cartons only.

How to measure this project

Measure the finished floor footprint wall to wall and add closets or offsets as separate rectangles. Exclude permanent built-ins only when the flooring will not run beneath them. Record the dimensions you used and recheck any section that is irregular, tapered or interrupted before relying on the final quantity.

Before you buy materials

Enter the exact coverage per carton. Keep extra matching planks when practical because future dye lots or finishes can vary. Compare the calculated target with the exact package, coverage and availability offered by the supplier, then round only at the final purchase step.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is laminate waste always 10%?

No. Straight layouts may use less; diagonal, patterned or complex rooms may need more.

Does the calculator include underlayment?

No. Underlayment should be planned separately using its own coverage.

Why show purchased coverage?

It makes the effect of whole-carton rounding visible before you buy.
