Measure the back wall, each side wall, tiled height and floor dimensions at the finished tile plane. Deduct only meaningful untiled wall openings. Niches, benches, curbs and returns add surface area and should be measured as separate rectangles when they are significant rather than folded into an arbitrary waste percentage.
Wet-area projects often use different tile formats on walls and floors, and mosaics can have different package coverage and waste behavior. Run separate calculations when products differ. This calculator estimates tile coverage only; waterproofing membranes, backer systems, drain assemblies, setting materials and slope requirements must be planned from the selected system and applicable project guidance.
