How to measure this project

Measure the finished ceiling field wall to wall at the plane where the tile/grid layout will land. Record the two perpendicular room dimensions and the exact module dimensions of the selected ceiling tile. If the room has an alcove, soffit, column, beam, jog or separate ceiling height, split it into independent rectangular fields instead of averaging the shape. Choose tile orientation before transferring any marks.

Frequently asked questions

Why add one full tile to the remainder before dividing by two?

Splitting only the raw remainder can create narrow slivers. Borrowing one full module and dividing the total by two creates equal opposite borders that are at least half a tile module when the room can contain a full module.

What happens when the room dimension divides evenly by the tile size?

A centered balanced layout uses half-module borders on both sides with one fewer full module between them. That avoids one wall starting with a full tile while the opposite edge also lands on a full-module line.

Does this calculate main tees, cross tees or hanger wires?

No. It solves border-panel geometry only. Use the exact suspension-system instructions or project design for grid members, hangers and structural attachment.

Can I use it for 2 × 2 and 2 × 4 ceiling tiles?

Yes for simple rectangular module layout. Enter the actual panel dimensions and choose the intended orientation. Patterned or scored panels may require a different visual-module layout from the manufacturer.
