Check long-edge layout.
Measure only deck edges that will actually receive the fascia product. A house ledger edge, stair opening, built-in feature or different trim system may interrupt the run, so record those deductions separately instead of altering the gross perimeter. Split long sides and short returns on the sketch because piece-length decisions often depend on where joints can be placed even when the total linear footage is unchanged.
Choose stock length from the product you expect to buy, then compare the whole-piece result with actual uninterrupted edge lengths. A pure footage conversion can underestimate the number of pieces when a long edge cannot be assembled from the offcuts created elsewhere. Keep course count, cut allowance and spare material explicit, and verify fastening, expansion, corner treatment and product compatibility outside this quantity calculation.
