Does not optimize stagger patterns or joist-specific cut layouts.

How to measure this project

Enter the deck dimension parallel to the boards as Length and the dimension across the board courses as Width. Use the actual face width of the decking product, not its nominal lumber name, and enter the planned installation gap.

Before you buy materials

A linear-foot estimate cannot optimize every butt joint, stagger pattern or picture-frame border. If the deck design uses borders, breaker boards or multiple stock lengths, calculate those separately and combine the purchase list.

Frequently asked questions

Does the deck board calculator include joists?

No. It estimates surface decking boards only. Framing requires separate structural planning based on span, loads, material and code requirements.

Why use actual board width?

Nominal lumber names do not always equal the finished face width. The number of board courses depends on the actual installed width plus the gap.

Can I use mixed board lengths?

The current purchase plan assumes one stock length. For mixed lengths, use the required linear footage as the target and create a cut/layout plan separately.
