How to measure this project

Measure only the turf controlled by the watering zone being evaluated. If one irrigation zone covers irregular shapes, sum their area first. Do not include pavement, mulched beds or surfaces that should not receive this watering. Keep separate zones when flow, sprinkler type or operating pressure differs materially because the runtime conversion should not mix incompatible delivery rates.

Before you buy materials

Use a target depth based on your actual lawn, soil, season and local restrictions. For runtime, use a measured zone flow or a reliable system value rather than guessing from nozzle appearance. The efficiency input is a planning factor, not a uniformity test. If water begins to run off before the calculated runtime, split-cycle or system-design decisions require field judgment outside this quantity tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does the calculator recommend how often I should water?

No. It converts a target depth you choose into volume and optional runtime; frequency depends on turf, soil, weather and local rules.

Where should the flow rate come from?

Use a measured zone flow or a dependable system value. An estimated flow can make runtime materially inaccurate.

Why include application efficiency?

It makes the difference between desired water landing on the lawn and estimated source water visible, but it is not a substitute for checking distribution uniformity.
