Use the concrete diameter
A tube form may be described by a nominal diameter. For quantity, the relevant dimension is the concrete cross-section inside the form.
Group equal columns
Using a quantity field is convenient only when diameter and height are identical. Otherwise calculate groups separately.
Keep footings and caps separate
Bell footings, pads and caps have different shapes and should be added as separate volumes.
Do not infer structural capacity
Concrete volume says nothing about reinforcement, load capacity, soil or code requirements. Those must come from the project design.
Separate the cylinder from its foundation
A round pier can sit on a rectangular pad, an enlarged bell, a continuous footing or a drilled shaft with varying diameter. The simple cylinder formula should cover only the constant-diameter portion you can describe accurately. Add base and cap shapes separately, and do not subtract reinforcement volume because it is normally insignificant for concrete ordering. If a form tube extends above grade while part of the pier is cast directly against soil, check whether the diameter remains the same. Group only columns with matching geometry before multiplying by quantity. For tall pours, placement sequence and form capacity can affect how concrete is delivered even when the total volume is correct. Keep those execution constraints separate from the quantity calculation.

Example: three round piers
Three 12 in diameter, 4 ft tall piers each have the same cylinder volume. Calculate one and multiply by three; then add separate footing volume if the pier bases are enlarged.

Frequently asked questions
Is a round pier the same as a post hole?
Not always. A post hole may include a post displacement; a solid concrete pier is modeled as a full cylinder.
Does a wider base count?
Yes, but calculate the enlarged base as a separate shape.
Can I determine rebar from concrete volume?
No. Reinforcement design is separate.
