How to measure this project

Measure the finished wall run at the cabinet/elevation line and record fixed interruptions separately. Confirm appliance openings from the actual appliance or installation specification rather than a generic nominal width. Decide which end fillers, finished panels or scribes are intentionally reserved before entering cabinet widths. Group identical cabinet widths and quantities, and run separate checks for different walls or for base versus wall cabinets when their schedules differ.

Boundary: This is evidence for one manufacturer product line, not a universal cabinet-width standard. Always use the current catalog or approved schedule for the selected cabinet system.

KraftMaid — Cabinetry Glossary: Filler Strip

Supports: KraftMaid describes filler strips as trim used to fill gaps between cabinets and a wall or appliance and notes that fillers can be scribed for irregular walls.

Boundary: Filler location and final width remain product-, design- and field-condition specific. The calculator only preserves an entered filler width in the arithmetic.

Frequently asked questions

Are kitchen cabinets always sold in 3-inch increments?

No. Some U.S. cabinet lines publish widths in 3 in steps, but product lines differ and custom or metric systems may use other schedules. Enter the increment you actually want to audit.

What counts as fixed run?

Use it for widths that interrupt cabinet boxes, such as an appliance opening or doorway. Use the actual project/specification dimensions and keep end fillers in their own fields.

Why enter cabinet widths instead of one average cabinet size?

An exact run closes from the actual scheduled box widths. An average width can estimate quantity but cannot prove that a specific schedule fits the measured wall.

Does a 0-inch gap mean I can order the cabinets?

Not by itself. Arithmetic closure still needs manufacturer model verification, corner logic, appliance clearances, fillers, wall conditions and installer review.

Should I combine base and wall cabinets in one run check?

Only when they truly share the same horizontal schedule. Otherwise run separate checks because windows, hoods, tall units and appliance openings often make upper and lower runs different.
