Measure each railing infill section between posts or other boundaries when section lengths vary. The total-run shortcut is useful only when the same width and gap repeat. Stair balusters and angled sections often need separate treatment because the geometry differs from level railing.
Railing opening limits are safety-critical. Enter the gap from the approved design or applicable requirements and confirm the finished installation, including deflection and end conditions. This calculator is for quantity planning only and does not certify a railing system.
