How to measure this project

Measure one flat, uninterrupted drywall field from a documented Datum 0 to its far boundary and measure the cross-run height. Enter the actual panel dimensions printed for the board you intend to use. Choose the orientation already allowed by the project/system. If alternating rows, enter the intended first-piece length for every other row. For the optional framing comparison, enter the center-to-center spacing and first center position measured from the same Datum 0 used by the panel layout.

This calculator reports layout segments and seam geometry, not purchase quantity. Use Drywall Calculator for whole-sheet takeoff, waste, openings and supporting materials. Reuse of cutoffs depends on cut quality, board type, required edge condition and the remaining project geometry, so placement segments must not be treated as sheets to buy. Confirm fastening, backing, joint treatment, board orientation and assembly requirements from the selected manufacturer/system and applicable project documents.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the Drywall Calculator?

No. Drywall Calculator owns project-level sheet quantity and supporting-material takeoff. This tool owns the geometry of rows, seam coordinates, closing pieces and modeled internal joint length for one rectangular field.

Does a seam that lands on a framing center mean the joint is approved?

No. It only means the two entered coordinate grids coincide. Edge support, backing, fasteners and rated-assembly details still require project-specific verification.

Should drywall always be installed horizontally?

No universal orientation is assumed here. The calculator lets you model either panel direction because the selected board/system, framing and project requirements control installation.

Why does the tool call them placement segments instead of sheets?

A row can include a cut piece that may come from another sheet or reusable offcut. Counting placements as purchase sheets would overstate or misstate the takeoff.
