How to measure this project

Measure fascia along the roof edges where boards will actually be installed or replaced. For repair work, mark sections that remain in place and enter those as exclusions instead of estimating a percentage of the building perimeter. Record long uninterrupted runs separately because the preferred joint pattern can affect the practical stock-length mix. At corners and transitions, measure to a consistent reference point so overlapping dimensions are not counted twice.

Before you buy materials

Board width, thickness, material, finish and attachment method depend on the existing roof-edge assembly and project specification. Use the calculator to establish a linear-foot purchase target, then compare available stock lengths with the longest uninterrupted runs. A pure total-footage result assumes offcuts can be reused; projects with appearance constraints or limited joint locations can need more pieces than the mathematical minimum.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the house perimeter for fascia length?

Only if fascia follows that exact perimeter. Roof eaves, gables and additions often make the actual fascia run different.

Why might I need more boards than the calculator shows?

Long uninterrupted runs and planned joint locations can make some offcuts unusable even when total footage is sufficient.

Does this choose fascia board size?

No. Board dimensions and material specification remain external project inputs.
