When to use this calculator

You know measured eave runs and stock section length and need gutter linear stock.

Use a different calculator when

Use Roof Area for roof geometry; this tool does not size gutter/downspout hydraulic capacity.

Methodology

Formula & assumptions

Net run

measured eaves − excluded sections

Only edges receiving gutter.

Purchase target

net run × (1 + allowance)

Adds cuts and unusable short offcuts.

Stock sections

target ÷ section length

Rounds to whole pieces.

Budget

sections × price

Optional gutter-stock-only cost.

How to measure this project

Measure each eave edge that will receive gutter and total the runs. Exclude edges that intentionally have no gutter. If the project has many corners or short segments, record those sections because pure total linear footage can overestimate offcut reuse.

Before you buy materials

Gutter and downspout sizing depends on roof drainage area, rainfall intensity, slope, outlet arrangement and system design. This calculator does not perform hydraulic sizing. Use it only after the gutter profile and drainage system have been selected, then verify fittings, outlets, hangers and downspouts separately.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does this tell me what gutter size I need?

No. It estimates stock length only; hydraulic capacity and profile sizing require a drainage design.

Are downspouts included?

No. Downspouts, outlets, elbows, hangers and other fittings are separate.

Why add a cut allowance to linear footage?

Corners, short segments and damaged cuts can reduce how efficiently full stock lengths are used.
