Measure each run along the path where the material will actually be installed. If segments differ, group similar lengths or calculate them separately instead of hiding variation in a rough average. Record corners, returns and openings because those details affect cuts even when the total linear footage stays the same.
Linear footage does not automatically equal a stock-piece count. Enter the real stock length offered by the supplier, add a cut allowance that fits the project and round only at the purchase step. Long offcuts may be reusable, so a detailed cut plan can reduce the conservative whole-piece estimate.
