2 × (room length + room width)

Total wall-floor boundary of a rectangular room.

Net baseboard length

gross perimeter − door count × door width

Removes openings where baseboard will not be installed.

Purchase target

net length × (1 + waste %)

Allows for cuts, miters and defects.

Stock pieces

purchase target ÷ piece length, rounded up

Does not optimize a detailed cut list.

How to measure this project

Measure the room perimeter at the wall line where baseboard will run. Count door openings that interrupt the trim and use the actual opening width when possible. Closets, bump-outs and additional wall segments should be added as separate linear measurements.

Before you buy materials

Stock-piece count is a simple linear-foot plan. Real cut layouts may require more pieces to avoid short joints, accommodate long uninterrupted walls or match profiles. If appearance matters, plan joint locations before buying.

Frequently asked questions

Should I subtract door openings from baseboard length?

Yes when baseboard stops at the door casing. Enter the count and average or actual opening width represented by the project.

Does the calculator include inside and outside corners?

Corners are reflected in the room perimeter but do not add separate length. They can increase cutting waste, which is why the waste percentage is editable.

Why can a cut list need more stock pieces?

A pure linear-foot calculation assumes all offcuts are reusable. Long wall runs and preferred joint locations can force a different stock-length mix.
