How to measure this project
Measure the actual path of the edging. For rectangular beds, length and width provide a quick perimeter, but curved or free-form edges are better measured with a flexible tape, string or measuring wheel along the intended line. Subtract only openings where no edging will be installed and measure transitions separately.
Before you buy materials
Enter the real stock length for the edging system and use an allowance that reflects curves, joints and cutting. The result rounds to whole pieces and reports surplus length, but connectors, stakes, corners and manufacturer-specific fittings may add separate quantities. Flexible roll edging may be better planned with its exact roll length.
