Soffit Calculator: Area, Panels & Package Coverage

Estimate soffit field area from the eave length and soffit depth you measure, then convert the adjusted area into whole packages using the product coverage you enter. Ventilation design remains outside the quantity arithmetic.

Choose the right tool

When to use this calculator

You need soffit field area and whole packages from eave run, soffit depth and product coverage.

Use a different calculator when

This tool does not size ventilation; use Fascia Board for linear fascia stock or Siding for wall cladding.

Methodology

Formula & assumptions

Gross soffit area

eave run × soffit depth

For mixed depths, calculate zones separately for a tighter takeoff.

Net soffit area

gross area − entered exclusions

Exclude only areas outside the panel field.

Planning target

net area × (1 + entered allowance)

Cuts and layout reserve remain explicit.

Packages

planning target ÷ package coverage, rounded up

Use actual product coverage and sold package units.

How to measure this project

Measure the linear eave run where soffit panels will be installed and the horizontal or sloped depth of the soffit field. If the house has several overhang depths, porches or boxed returns, calculate those zones separately rather than using one average that hides large differences. Subtract only meaningful areas that will not receive panel material. Keep vents and fixtures noted on the sketch even when their small openings are not worth deducting from quantity.

Before you buy materials

Soffit profile, venting configuration, panel orientation and accessory channels are product/system decisions and are not inferred by this calculator. Enter the usable coverage for the exact package or panel bundle being purchased. Waste can rise with short returns, many corners and pattern alignment. Ventilation requirements should be determined from the roof/attic design and applicable guidance, then the material takeoff can use the chosen vented and solid products separately if needed.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator tell me how much vented soffit I need?

No. Ventilation sizing is a separate design requirement; this tool only calculates field material from entered geometry and coverage.

Can I average different soffit depths?

You can for a rough estimate, but separate zones are better when depths differ enough to materially change area.

Are J-channels or other trim included?

No. The result is soffit field coverage; accessory trim should be planned separately for the selected system.
