How to measure this project
Measure each fence segment at the rail line, then total only segments that use the same rail system. Record gates and other intentional openings separately rather than shortening the source run by guesswork. Corners, changes in height and transitions between materials should remain visible on the sketch so later revisions can be traced to the field geometry instead of disappearing into a single total.
Before you buy materials
Use the selected fence system or project documents to determine how many horizontal rails belong on each run and which stock lengths are acceptable. The linear-foot calculation assumes offcuts can contribute to the total, so long uninterrupted bays may need a different stock mix. Treat the result as a purchasing reference and review real bay lengths, joints, defects and supplier stock before ordering.
