Measure the covered area and use an average finished rock depth. Break curved or irregular beds into smaller shapes for a closer estimate. Record the dimensions you used and recheck any section that is irregular, tapered or interrupted before relying on the final quantity.
Ask the supplier for bulk density and recommended depth for the exact rock size. Very large stone or void-rich material can behave differently from dense gravel. Compare the calculated target with the exact package, coverage and availability offered by the supplier, then round only at the final purchase step.
