How to measure this project

Measure the two adjacent sides from consistent reference points, then measure the corner-to-corner diagonal between the corresponding layout points. If the physical object has thickness, trim, offsets or bowed edges, use the same reference plane for all three dimensions. For a real squareness check, measure both diagonals of the rectangle rather than relying on a single corner-to-corner value.
