Measure along the finished floor from wall to wall. For alcoves, closets or offsets, split the footprint into rectangles and measure each section separately. Record the dimensions you used and recheck any section that is irregular, tapered or interrupted before relying on the final quantity.
Area is a starting quantity, not a purchase quantity. Flooring, tile and other products typically need waste and package rounding, so continue to the material-specific calculator before buying.
