How to measure this project

Measure the length that actually receives bedding and the intended width of the prepared pipe bed. Enter the compacted or placed thickness specified for the project. If fittings, structures or transitions require wider bedding zones, calculate those areas separately rather than increasing the entire trench width. This keeps the material takeoff tied to geometry that can be checked in the field.

Before you buy materials

Bedding material gradation, compaction method and required thickness depend on the project and product/system requirements. Use this tool only after those values are known. Bulk aggregate is normally ordered by volume or weight, while small repairs may use bags. If using bags, enter the actual usable yield rather than assuming every bag size covers the same volume.

Does this tell me how thick the bedding should be?

No. Enter the thickness required by the project, product or applicable specification.

Is pipe bedding the same as French-drain gravel?

No. Bedding is a defined layer supporting a pipe; French-drain stone typically fills a larger trench zone and may account for pipe displacement.

Can I enter bulk material instead of bags?
